I am a graduate of Queen's University, Belfast and the University of Manchester. I have also been a visiting scholar at the Norwegian Research Centre for Computers & Law at the University of Oslo, Norway; attended an Intensive Programme on Information and Communication Security (IPICS) at the Katholieke University, Leuven, Belgium and participated in the Oxford Internet Institute Summer Doctoral Programme (SDP 2007) hosted by the Berkman Centre, Harvard University.
I qualified and worked as a Solicitor before pursuing an academic career. I was employed as a Research Assistant at Queen's University Belfast, and taught at the University of Manchester's School of Law before being employed as a Lecturer in Law at the University of Salford.
I am a member of Media@UEA, an interdisciplinary research group at the University of East Anglia, and a member of the Confidentiality and Privacy Research Group (CAPRI) at the Centre for Census and Survey Research, University of Manchester.
I am a member of the Executive Committee of BILETA (British & Irish law, Education & Technology Association).
